- Entrants must send a correctly completed entry form and fee to New Lights
- Entrants are encouraged to submit up to a maximum of four works with each application
- There is no maximum number of applications per artist
- Entrants should submit their work in JPEG format, on CD-ROM
- Entrants must live and work in the North of England, as defined by the historic counties of Cumbria, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire, or have graduated in an art-based subject from a college or university based in the North of England with a Bachelor’s or Post Graduation degree
- Entrants must be aged between 23 and 35 on 31st December 2011
- All submissions must be static paintings, capable of being hung without requiring any power source
- All entry forms should be accompanied by a full artist’s Curriculum Vitae
- The closing date for submission of entries is 3 July 2011
- Any applications submitted in any other format will not be entered
- Entries may not be submitted by e-mail
- All entries received on CD-ROM will be acknowledged if an email address is supplied, but will not be returned
- Short-listed entrants will be notified as soon as possible after the closing date for entries
- Important: originals of any submitted entry must be available for judging should the entry be short-listed. These originals must also be available for an exhibition of short-listed artists’ work at the time The Prize is awarded
- Short-listed artists will deliver their work to the New Lights exhibition, and collect any unsold pieces after the exhibition. Carriage will be at the artist’s expense
- All artists submit their work on the understanding that short-listed pieces will be exhibited as for sale
- New Lights will determine the price of works offered for sale at its exhibition in conjunction with the artist
- Short-listed entrants may be invited to also submit pieces of supporting work for sale by New Lights at The Prize exhibition. These are likely to be selected from the works sent with the application
- New Lights will retain a 30% commission of all sales, with the remainder being paid to the artist
- The judges may ask to hold short interviews with short-listed entrants to assist their deliberations in choosing a finalist
- The Prize winner will be required to submit a brief written overview on the ways in which their work might develop should they win a New Lights’ Prize
- New Lights may frame work (or change the frame on work) for the exhibition, at the organisers’ discretion. The cost for this will be deducted from the sale price. Short-listed entrants will not be expected to reimburse New Lights for the cost of framing any unsold pieces. This will be done with consideration of the artist’s views
- Unsold short-listed entrants’ portfolios must be collected from the New Lights within two days of the exhibition closing. Uncollected work will be become the property of New Lights, without compensation to the artist
- The Prize will be presented during the exhibition of short-listed work
- The copyright of all works submitted for the New Lights Prize will remain the property of the artist, but it is a condition of entry that the organisers reserve the right of reproduction of all works invited for exhibition for publicity/educational/reference purposes in connection with the Prize
- The decision of the adjudicators is final and no correspondence can be entered into
- The personal information supplied by entrants will be held securely by organisers of the Awards in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 1998. This information will only be used in the process of administrating The Awards and will not be transferred to any third party. At the end of each Awards programme this personal information may be retained permanently for historical research purposes by New Lights
- No adviser, member, employee or Trustee of New Lights, is eligible for a Prize
- No sponsor, judge, or relative thereof, is eligible for a Prize
- New Lights reserves the right to change conditions of entry without warning
